By actively contributing with scientific and educational content, Triton played a key role in the EMSEA 2024 conference at the University of Zadar. This international convention promoted ocean literacy and encouraged collaboration on innovative projects focused on marine sustainability.
On the first day, Triton presented “The LIFE A-MAR Natura2000 Sailing Campaign as a Tool for Ocean Literacy,” a work centred on revitalising ocean literacy and offering new perspectives related to the “blue” economy, a sustainable economic model for marine resources. The presentation sparked discussions on how education and international collaboration can become key tools in addressing the challenges of ocean conservation.
Triton also co-authored a poster on innovative approaches to marine education, highlighting the importance of citizen science and the need to educate new generations of citizens committed to protecting marine biodiversity. In this case, the hook used was marine-themed photography contests that encouraged the public to engage directly with nature, while simultaneously expanding their knowledge of it.
A notable contribution was Triton’s participation in the workshop “Fins into the Water: Water Sports to Enhance Mediterranean Sea Literacy,” which explored how water sports can be used as powerful educational tools, bringing the public closer to the sea while raising awareness about conservation issues and increasing knowledge about the health of the Mediterranean Sea.
This event was officially recognized as part of the activities of the UN Ocean Decade, reaffirming the importance of international collaboration in promoting sustainable practices for the future of the oceans.
